Camden Electronics Demonstrates “Glocal” Manufacturing Capabilities At Electronica 2008

Camden Electronics is showing its “Glocal” manufacturing capabilities at the Electronica 2008 exhibition (11 to 14 November, New Munich Trade Fair Centre, Munich, Germany).

Camden uses the term “Glocal” to describe its ability to serve the global market locally through its recently established operating company in China - Camden Electronics (Shenzhen) which is located in the Free Trade Zone (FTZ) at Fu Tian, Shenzhen and stocks a wide range of Camden products to service the company’s growing customer base in China, the Far East and Australasia.

Nicola Kay, Camden Electronics’ owner, commented, “This is a very exciting development for Camden as it establishes our presence very firmly in the global centre for manufacturing and enables us to provide a high level of local service to our many customers in the region. We are also enhancing services for our long-established suppliers in the region.”

Kay added, “Camden Electronics (Shenzhen) represents a logical extension to our existing activities in China and the Far East. We have been assembling some of our leading products in China for more than two decades, many of which have been shipped to St. Albans and then back to customers in the region. Having our own wholly-owned trading company in Fu Tian enables products for those customers to be shipped direct with a huge reduction in lead times, not to mention a saving in transportation costs.”

Kay continued, “We have coined the term ‘Glocal’ to describe what we are doing here - able to service the global market locally. Camden has always believed in having a local presence to better serve worldwide markets - our lengthy roster of international distributors is testament to that - and the Shenzhen facility takes our philosophy one stage further. Designers worldwide who use Camden products that are subsequently manufactured in the Far East also benefit from being able to source our components close to their production plants.”

“Besides improving service to our existing customer base in the region and helping to ensure customer retention, Camden Electronics (Shenzhen) also provides us with many new opportunities to sell in the locality. We are also benefitting from improved standing with our suppliers in China and are actively pursuing opportunities to source more competitively with improved local knowledge,” added Kay.

Kay concluded, “Camden Electronics (Shenzhen) represents a genuine and intensive investment in the Far Eastern region that is already yielding benefits for our many customers who manufacture in China and other adjacent countries as well as enhancing our presence in the area.”
Camden is also exhibiting a vented version of its latest size 12 enclosures recently added to the versatile CNMB modular DIN rail mounting family for applications requiring additional heat dissipation.

The new vented CNMB/12 snapfit DIN rail enclosure is 210mm long and features ventilation slots moulded into both sides of the body to provide improved heat dissipation compared with fully enclosed models. Having moulded vents saves users the difficulties associated with machining enclosures, significantly increasing productivity and reducing assembly costs. The moulded vents also result in a stronger moulding compared to a similar enclosure with machined ventilation slots. It is supplied complete with 12 terminal guards as standard, eight perforated on 5.08mm pitch and four solid.

Camden’s acclaimed CNMB series enables users to produce housings to meet almost any conceivable requirement. A total of eight versions is currently available offering lengths of 17.5, 36, 53, 71, 88, 106, 160 and 210mm all 90mm wide.

Offering greater versatility, Camden’s design features PCB guides to ensure boards are held in place firmly and moulded screw holes in the base to facilitate mounting of PCBs with heavier components such as relays or transformers. Up to three PCBs can be mounted horizontally while there are four mounting positions for vertical boards.
In addition, the enclosure base is fully sealed with none of the holes that are found on competing products, avoiding the need for any insulating pads and reducing assembly costs for users. The design of the enclosure is such that all tabs on the body have been eliminated to avoid small lugs that might break off.

Standard colour is grey (RAL 7035) although Camden can also supply mouldings in black, green, red or blue for volume orders. Additional special features include snapon terminal covers to IP20 finger protection with perforated screwdriver and wire entry holes and tabs as standard and spring loaded DIN rail clips that can be snapped open to allow chassis/surface mounting. Camden can also supply an optional adaptor for Grail mounting.

Terminal covers and snapin panels can also be provided to customer specifications for volume orders. Other optional special features include EMC shielded metallic coated boxes.

Camden is exhibiting on stand 569, Hall B5.
